Zed 1.0: a fast editor built in Rust ๐Ÿš€

The folks at Zed Industries have released Zed 1.0, the first stable release of their code editor.

There is an interesting trend here: more and more things are moving from JS/TS to Rust. Linters, formatters and other tools went first, giving us a noticeable speed boost, and now full-fledged editors are following. Zed is part of this new wave.

From the very beginning, the editor was built with performance and multiplayer collaboration in mind. The result is very fast and responsive, actively developed, and already surrounded by an impressive community.

What arrived with 1.0:

  • โšก๏ธ Instant responsiveness with large projects, thanks to Rust and a well-thought-out architecture
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Real-time collaboration: work together with others right in the editor
  • ๐Ÿค– AI: a built-in coding assistant for suggestions, generation and so on
  • ๐Ÿงฉ Extensibility: plugins and customization to suit your needs
  • ๐Ÿ–ฅ Native UI without a web view, which also affects performance
  • ๐Ÿ”Œ LSP integrations and the familiar development stack
  • ๐ŸŒ Cross-platform support: Windows, macOS and Linux

It looks like a serious bid to compete with Visual Studio Code and other editors.

It is interesting to watch Rust gradually become a foundation not only for infrastructure, but also for the development tools we use every day.

Have you looked into Zed yet, or even switched already? ๐Ÿ‘€
