Yarn 6 moves to Rust: a first look at the next major release

The Yarn team has significantly rethought its installation mechanics and version management. The main focus is on being faster, simpler, and free of unnecessary magic.

⚡ Speed

Yarn 6 is already faster than pnpm in several scenarios: cold installs, CI, and large monorepos. A reworked install pipeline and fewer unnecessary operations have made installation noticeably faster.

🔁 Yarn Switch

The new yarn switch command makes it easy to switch Yarn versions at the project level. The package manager version becomes part of the project, without manually wrestling with Corepack.

🦥 Lazy Install

Dependencies are no longer installed “just in case.” Yarn pulls them in as they’re used. Less IO and faster initial installs, especially useful for monorepos.

Which package manager do you use, and why?
