TypeScript 6 Beta: A Transitional Release on the Road to the Go Version
TypeScript 6 prepares the ecosystem for TS 7's Go compiler with new language features, better type inference, and the removal of old settings.

The TypeScript team has released version six of the language, a transitional release ahead of the major TypeScript 7 update, which will bring a native Go version of the compiler. TS 6 ties up loose ends: it adds new capabilities, removes outdated settings, and gradually prepares the ecosystem for the next major version.
Main changes:
- Resource management support through the
usingdeclaration - Improved type inference
- Removal of old
targetvalues andmoduleResolutionstrategies - Support for new ECMAScript features (such as
Temporal, upsert methods, and more) - Removal of
baseUrl, with path resolution now handled throughpaths - Removal of
asserts(import assertions are replaced by import attributes)
And that’s far from everything: there really are a lot of changes. You can find the details in the official announcement.
I’d recommend starting the move to version six now to make the upgrade to TS 7 as painless as possible.
