State of Devs 2026 explores developers’ health, salaries, careers, hobbies and community.

The State of Devs 2026 survey is live! 🧠

State of Devs is a survey about people, not tools. It sheds light on aspects of developers’ lives that usually stay outside dry technical charts.

What is in the questionnaire:

  • Health and work-life balance: burnout, mental health, physical activity and actual working hours versus the hours people claim to work.
  • Careers and money: real salaries, remote-work arrangements, and the impact of AI assistants on your daily routine and fear of losing your job.
  • Hobbies and lifestyle: what tech workers do when they close their IDEs (and whether they ever do).
  • Community: where people look for information now and how attitudes toward open source have changed.

Why does this matter?

We already see technical trends in GitHub repositories and npm downloads. But understanding the real state of the industry, how the average developer feels in 2026, how much they earn and how they cope with stress, is impossible without surveys like these. The more practicing engineers complete the questionnaire, the more relevant and accurate the final picture will be.

It takes about 15 minutes to complete. A great excuse to step away from refactoring and reflect on your own career path.
