π©βπ» csskit: A High-Performance CSS Toolchain in Rust
The csskit alpha combines CSS parsing, minification, formatting, transformations, and LSP support in a high-performance Rust toolchain.

An alpha version of a new CSS tool written in Rust has been introduced. Itβs essentially a complete toolchain: parsing, transformations, minification, formatting, and LSP, all in one. If you work directly with CSS (without heavy bundlers), this looks very interesting. But itβs important to understand that this is an alpha, so itβs still too early for production. Still, itβs definitely worth trying. A particular bonus is the LSP server, which gives you real-time feedback in your IDE: errors, highlighting, semantic tokens, and so on. β‘οΈ
Whatβs inside:
- Parser: a spec-compliant CSS parser with a full AST.
- Minifier: aggressive minification for faster asset delivery.
- Formatting: CSS formatting with a consistent style.
- Transformations: transforming modern syntax to support different browsers.
- LSP: language server integration for editors and IDEs.
- Highlighting: syntax highlighting with Semantic Tokens support.
Itβs positioned as something like a lightweight alternative to PostCSS/Lightning CSS, but with a focus on performance and native execution (Rust). Letβs see where the project goes; so far, it looks promising π
